Through his remarkable creativity and exceptional talent, Dr L. Subramaniam has come to be recognised internationally as a great violinist. Following his father's footsteps, Dr Subramaniam has taken instrumental music to a new and original dimension.
It is a matter of great satisfaction that he and his late wife, Shrimati Viji Subramaniam, established a Global Music Festival in the name of Dr Subramaniam's father and guru, Professor V. Lakshminarayana.
I am delighted to preside over the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival in Delhi featuring the Lithuanian Orchestra with the Kaunas State Choir specially conducted by Lord Menuhin and to be able to hear the distinguished violinist from Scandinavia - Arve Tellefsen and pianist Christian Eggen.
May Dr Subramaniam continue to link the music and musicians of the world through his remarkable genius.

I have had the pleasure and privilege of attending the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival and presenting the Lakshminarayana International Awards to eminent musicians and artists occasionally. The Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival was organised by India's renowned violinist Dr L. Subramaniam. LGMF is the only global music festival hosted in India where artists from different countries perform. Over the years, the festival has emerged as a prestigious event in the music calendar of India.
Dr L. Subramaniam is easily the finest exponent of Carnatic music of our times who has, through his masterly performances, popularised India's divine music in different parts of the world. He has been endowed with a rare gift of adapting himself to different genres of music, from Indian classical, Jazz fusion to Western Classical. Surprisingly he achieved universal acclaim at a much younger age. I have witnessed many of his performances and experienced the sheer pleasure of his music. Dr Subramaniam is a phenomenon to have happened to Indian Classical music at a time when music stands at the crossroad of purity and populism. I do not doubt that Dr Subramaniam will take Indian classical music to international heights with his adaptability, openness to learning and hard work.
As a connoisseur of music, I wish him many more years of glorious service to the cause of music in India and the world.

Dr L. Subramaniam is today one of the foremost musicians in India. Though professionally trained to be a medical doctor, his virtuosity on the violin is legendary in India and worldwide. Dr Subramaniam has carried forward the legacy of his great father, the illustrious Shri Lakshminarayana, who took the violin from an accompanying instrument to one heard in its own right. The contribution of Dr Subramaniam is widely recognised all over, as evidenced by the Padma Bhushan award and an honorary doctorate from the University of Bangalore. While carrying forward the traditions of Carnatic music, Dr Subramaniam has not confined himself only to it. He believes that music is a universal language, accessible to all across the barrier of languages and nationalities. He has an innovative spirit of exploration and experimentation in the search for beauty and harmony. Through his interactions with world-renowned figures such as the late Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Stephane Grapelli, Jean-Luc Ponty, Ravi Coltrane, Billy Cobham and George Duke, to name only a few, Dr Subramaniam has been conversing through the medium of music. The 'fusion' has become his intellectual and emotional forte as an artiste and an achievement. It is through such conversations that the divisions among men can be healed.
His wife, the well-known singer of versatile proficiency, Smt. Kavita Krishnamurti has carved a place for herself in the minds and hearts of music-loving people. She has been awarded the Padma Shri by the Hon'ble President this year, which she greatly deserves. While still engaged in higher studies, their son and daughter have already shown the promise of their musical talents. At the same time, I congratulate Dr Subramaniam and Smt. Kavita Krishnamurthy. I wish them all success in their endeavours to enrich their musical legacy. I wish their young children all the best in the years to come. Many, like me, feel that every performance of Dr Subramaniam is a new and exhilarating experience for the listeners. His is the music for all places and for all times.

The Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival has established itself as one of the major musical events in the country. The Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival 2011 held in Kolkata was truly a special event as it commemorated the birth centenary of Professor V. Lakshminarayana, a legendary figure credited with the development of many fingering and bowing techniques on the Indian violin. The event was a musical extravaganza, the like of which has yet to be seen in India. Dr Subramaniam, who orchestrated the entire programme, is widely accepted as the 'God of the Indian violin', and the whole ensemble consisting of outstanding young and experienced artists from the US, Russia, Algeria, China and Norway, apart from young Ambi Subramaniam, produced a veritable feast for those wedded to the string instrument.
I was privileged to be part of the programme and felt transported to new heights of ecstasy listening to the maestros from across the globe. One seldom comes across such a remarkable musical event, which was a fitting tribute by a devoted son- and genius in his own right - to his legendary father.

I offer warm felicitations to Dr L. Subramaniam for conceiving and organising the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival in memory of his father, a well-known musician.
The festival is taken around the globe and helps to acquaint the world with the Indian musical tradition and glory, bringing together the East and West in a musical fusion.

I have had the pleasure of attending and inaugurating the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival, organised by Dr L. Subramaniam and Viji Global Arts, on more than one occasion. The Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival is the only global music festival in India and has assembled great artists from all over the world on one stage. The festival has now spread all over the world.
Dr Subramaniam and Mrs Viji Subramaniam started the festival in honour of his late father and guru, Prof. V. Lakshminarayana, a pioneer in violin technique and a great teacher and composer. The festival promotes peace and harmony and brings different artists from different musical traditions together to promote a unique musical exchange at every concern.
Dr L Subramaniam has established himself as the top Indian violinist and composer of today, and I wish him and his festival all success in the
future.
